Marvel Gets Brave-ish

In the new series The United States of Captain America, Steve Rogers and the other three men who have borne the Shield, travel across the USA meeting various other people who are inspired to emulate in their lives the vision and ideals of Captain America. This device allows Marvel to update, modernize and take certain risks with the "idea" and "image" of Captain America without modifying or altering the original characters. So . . . as I said in the title to this post . . . "brave-ish." I predict that if any of these new Cap characters become popular, we'll see them getting their own comics line.

Aaron Fischer, the "gay" Captain America, is suitably young, punkish, pierced, tattooed, alienated from his family and unhoused. But at least Marvel does portray him starting a new relationship with his BIPOC boyfriend Adrian by kissing him and holding hands. I guess that's worth something.
