Bucky Barnes, Survivor

["I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.
I was a survivor, and I was strong.
I would not be weak, or helpless again.
I would not, could not be broken."

The Snap

(white border

["suffer" by miadulceaphel]

["...steve?"
gifset by tonystarkly]

This is so out of date I don’t know why I’m even positing it but

I think after Infinity War pictures of Bucky half-dusted should have been tagged

Dustbuckies

You know, like dust bunnies but you feel way sadder

Then I started thinking about a lump of dust with a metal arm made out of a stray paper clip

As you can see I’m completely fine

The Curveball of Steve Rogers' Life

 laporcupina

By his body’s clock, there’s been less than five years from the beginning until now, from knit top to body armor, from showgirl to warrior of legend, from Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) to Captain America (aka Steve Rogers). He’s barely thirty, which nobody seems to realize or remember. It’s just as well because sometimes he feels all of the ninety-six years the calendar gives him. Never more so than when he looks at the photos and rare scraps of video from before, when he can see how much the transition has cost him and how much of it he paid even before Bucky fell. He never meant for war to become his life, let alone the only thing he understood. And yet it has.

#Fandom always talks about how much Bucky has changed#and how Steve will have to deal with a possibly darker Bucky#but I wonder how heartbroken Bucky will be when he realizes that STEVE has changed too#That Steve hardly smiles and always looks so tired.#That his once idealistic and optimistic friend can barely remember why he fights#and is always battle-ready because he no longer sees an end to the war.#The world has changed Steve and hardened him even more.#but Captain America is still keeping up appearances  (via assetandmission)

It always baffles me that fandom so easily forgets this - that Steve is actually so very young. I, myself, will be forty in a few short months. And the difference between my 30-year-old self, and now is stunning. And unlike Steve, I am not a veteran, I never went to war, saw blood and gore and destruction right in front of my very eyes, had to watch my best friend fall from a train after I had dragged him back into war. Steve’s life is so tragic. And yet he keeps trucking on, doing his best to live up to Erskine’s legacy (a legacy that is as much of an albatross across his neck as it was a gift), doing his best to save people. And that is one of the reasons I love him.
