Review of Falcon & Winter Soldier #1 (2020)

I've just read the premiere issue of Falcon & Winter Soldier, a limited-run comic of 5 issues, and it is worthy! The plot seems intriguing enough and the art is excellent!

I was disappointed in last year's limited-run comic, Winter Soldier (2018), because both the art and the writing were pretty mediocre. However, I'm glad to see that Falcon & Winter Soldier keeps three things from Winter Soldier --

  • Bucky's nondescript-looking Indiana home,
  • his yoga practice, and
  • his white cat, Alpine (the most delightful aspect of that whole comic).

Here are the first 3 pages of Falcon & Winter Soldier --

Alpine is right in the middle of the action, LOL, clinging onto Bucky for dear life as he fights his way out of the house! Later, Bucky grouses to Sam about the "bunch of bad guys who turned up at my house and tried to kill my cat, and me along with her." Notice who he's more concerned about!

[Later addition to this post: YAY, I found some larger versions of these panels which show the delightful details more clearly --]

I think this will be a good series. It should certainly whet some appetites for the upcoming Marvel/Disney+ streaming series!
