Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #11 (2023)

[CAPTAIN AMERICA: SENTINEL OF LIBERTY #11
Writers: Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly
Artist: Carmen Carnero
Cover Artists: Carmen Carnero and Alejandro Sánchez]

Before we get started with the review, I just want to note that I scored a copy of this fabulous variant cover for this issue by Francesco Manna & Espen Grundetjern!

This issue starts with the New Revolution being distressed by Roger Aubrey's death. Bucky and Roger were friends in World War II along with Steve.

Meanwhile in Manhattan, the fierce battle continues. Things are not going well, but then Bucky surreptitiously feeds a key phrase to Dryad Peggy ("Override two-nine omega revolution") which disarms MODOK and allows Sharon and the other Invaders to defeat it.

In the midst of battle, the Power calls Captain America "just an outmoded product. A prototype long discarded. A symbol long obsolete." He "dismisses" him from the Century Game and then tries to kill him. But Steve takes down the Power with his Shield, apparently killing him.

Steve then talks to Bucky, who he knows is watching from the Game Board above the conflict. Steve blames and chastises Bucky for sacrificing Roger Aubrey but the New Revolution is unrepentant.

After the battle is won, the wounded Redacted recovers in Steve's apartment and keeps mysteriously referring to himself as "they." I suspect that he is harbouring Roger Aubrey's spirit so that Destroyer will be able to live once more. After all, no one ever really dies in the comics, do they? Dryad Peggy communicates with the New Revolution again and refers to an upcoming "Phase Two."

Steve and Sharon share a tender moment in which Steve tells Sharon he loves her and asks her to live with him. But then, an unexpected visitor shows up at the front door -- Steve's son Ian Rogers (Nomad).

The stage is now set for the big COLD WAR crossover event which will bring in Captain America Sam Wilson, Nomad and the evil White Wolf character who have so far been playing out their own storyline in the Captain America: Symbol of Truth series.
